From Paperwork to the Greenwood
My First Festival Stall at Wildwood Arts Weekend
The moment had finally arrived!
My very first festival stall in the heart of Sherwood Forest.
I can honestly say I prepared to the absolute limit of my capacity. Getting here wasn't simple. Navigating the selection process meant tackling things completely new to me, like writing event programs and drafting formal risk assessments. I quickly learned that an invitation doesn't guarantee an automatic trader placement! However, breaking down the risk assessment became an incredible learning experience. It forced me to look closely at my setup and map out exactly how to safely run my business operations.
Setting the Scene
Once the team from Lancaster Armour and my husband stepped in to help, the physical build began. Together, they installed a beautiful, traditional medieval tent on the site. With the heavy structure securely in place, setting up the rest of my display and stock felt much easier.
Expectation vs. Reality
Going into the weekend, I really had no idea what to expect. As the event unfolded, myself and the majority of the other traders quickly realised it was one of the lowest-attended festivals the site had seen. After all, it was a brand new festival.
But a quiet footfall brought a different kind of reward. I quickly discovered that the veteran festival traders are incredibly warm, kind, and welcoming to newcomers. I walked away with some fantastic advice on stall layouts, display tips, and invaluable industry insights that I will carry with me.
Looking Forward
The weekend was far from a failure. I successfully sold my products, and people consistently engaged with my workshops throughout the event.
Most importantly, this was the perfect dress rehearsal. I am now incredibly excited, focused, and ready for the massive 40th Robin Hood Festival this August!
